As we bring in the new football season, one tradition that all of us in the Mississippi State community should remember is the cowbell. A tradition held strong here at Mississippi State, you can hear the sound of the cowbell ringing at every home game. Our fans hold this tradition strong and honor it with pride.
The history of the Cowbell began in the 1930's and early 1940's with MSU's football success before World War II. It is a symbol that represents Mississippi State and has even been one that opponents have tried to ban from games. But, the bell reigns strong! Here at MSU, we take pride in ringing our cowbells at every game and respect the bell to help bring us a victory! It is a tradition that decorates the shelves of alumni, students, and fans. The Cowbell, for Mississippi State, will be a tradition carried on for generations.
Make sure that you learn more about the cowbell by stopping by Mitchell Memorial Library where there is a gallery of the cowbell history, pictures, and historic cowbells that are from Mississippi State. Town and Gown intern, Loren Gambrell, even has some of her picture previewed at the table from Town and Gown Magazine. Stop by today!
